Reading Response:

I read about Kim Jones (Pg 208). I thought this was a really interesting section about inventing biography. At first i thought it was really strange that Jones would dress up like "mudman" and walk around different cities, but then as i read more, I started to ponder on the thought of dressing up as your alter ego for a day. I wonder what it would be like if everyone did that one day and how different peoples alter ego is from their "normal" self.

Art & Fear

  • In Painting 1, I did a master copy James Ensor's portrait of his father. It seems silly that I feel like that piece of work felt like my won because it is a copy of someone else's work, but I do. That painting was the style that I enjoy and I loved the subject matter. I feel like I really related to it and the simplicity of the painting itself. It was the first painting that I was really proud of.
  • I think that civilizations have not lived without art is because art is personal and ever changing. Its rare, like in the book, that the same work of art is produced twice, while in science there is a specific answer to the questions your are presented with and those answer don't usually change. It can take years and years to figure out the answer to a scientific question and in those years people are producing art everyday. With art, there are no limits or guidelines. You can create freely with no rules or boundaries.
  • I relate most to art being something you do out in the world. I can go weeks without really creating art because im not inspired by anything. I think I create art out of inspiration overall.
  • Well i've noticed that I am an impatient person in art and in life itself. Ill have to walk away from a painting or simply start over if its not going as planned or how i imagined it and that is usually because i hate waiting for the layer of paint to dry. Ive also noticed that my subject matter is usually on the more emotional and dark side. They go more towards sad emotions rather then joyful.
  • I care about my friends and family. I care about my faith. And as silly as it sounds, a lot of my inspiration comes from fairy tales or harry potter so I guess I care about those things too.
